Autumn is well under way now, and winter is just around the corner. That means cosy nights by the fire drinking hot chocolate, getting wrapped up in big comfy jumpers, and stepping out in cute hat and scarf combos. However, it also means that your skin and hair are going to take a bit of a beating. But don’t worry, we’ve found a few clever beauty hacks that will help you stay looking gorgeous throughout the cold season…
Harness the power of tea
There’s nothing like a good cup of tea to warm you up on a cold day is there? But did you know that tea can also help to keep you looking good? The tannins found in black tea can help to hydrate and sooth your dry, chapped lips! After brewing up, take the teabag out of the cup and wait for it to cool before placing it on your lips. You should feel an instant cooling sensation as it begins to hydrate your poor wind-burned lips. And, of course, drinking the tea itself helps to keep your skin hydrated from the inside too.
Combat hat hair
That super-cute hat that you picked up from Topshop might look great while it’s on your head, but once you take it off you’ll probably find that your hair has lost a bit of its oomph. Don’t put up with flat, static hair all winter for the sake of having a warm head – you can beat hat hair! Carry a small hairbrush and some dry shampoo with you to quickly add volume to your hair when you remove your hat. Spray a little of the dry shampoo at your roots, and massage in with your finger tips, before brushing out any excess powder; and voila – your hair is volumised once more!
Stay hydrated
During the summer it’s easy to stay hydrated because you’re always sipping smoothies, juices, and water to keep cool in the heat. However, when winter rolls around it can be difficult to drink the right amount of water. Central heating and hot showers can dry your skin out, so it’s important to drink plenty of water. If you don’t fancy the thought of sipping cold water when you’re already struggling to stay warm, try drinking hot water with a slice of fresh lemon or lime. The vitamin C in the lemon helps to keep your skin clear and boost your immune system too.
Moisturise in the shower
Take your favourite body butter or lotion into the shower with you, and apply it to your towel-dried body straight after showering. Applying moisturiser in a steamy room helps to lock in as much hydration as possible, keeping your skin silky soft. After showering, pat your skin dry with a towel, and stay in the shower cubicle, or the bath, and treat your body to a deep moisturising treatment.
